This holiday season was highly untraditional, with people missing and celebrations postponed (and even a lack of a Santa Bus ride for me, for the first time in 7 years!) - but I enjoyed this Christmas all the same. The traditions are important, and they're nice to have, but it was kind of nice to shake things up a bit, too - even if the changes were somewhat forced upon us.
As the sign said at the hospital on Boxing Day: 365 days 'til Christmas... :)

Very nice post. Indeed, for too many folks Christmas is synonymous with Shopping. But, I'm happy to say that most people I know decided to spend less money and time shopping this year, and, coincidence or not, enjoyed the season more than usual. I really enjoyed this Christmas myself, and already look forward to the next one. :)

But there are a few problems with that in North America, too (again, more in the States, but still here too) - sometimes the state takes the separation of church and state a little too far, and ends up sanctioning religious activity altogether - such as city councils that ban Christmas trees, or schools that disallow the singing of carols. For me, perhaps due to growing up in a very multicultural country, I think that to essentially erase a holiday from public life is insane an assinine. Better to allow symbols of the various festivals happening at this time of year. Or, in the case where a rabbi complained that there was a Christmas tree in an airport - why not place a menorah next to the tree, rather than remove the tree and have nothing (which is what happened)? Instead of arguing about whose religion and festival is better than the others, why not just acknowledge that a very many people have reason to celebrate, and just leave it at that?

Coucou Larissa.
