L O Larissa. You just solved a long standing riddle; I've assumed for years that boxing day was meant to put away all the gift boxes and generally tidy up after the festivities. What you tell about the giving of gifts in the Uk is muchh more convivial.
Thank you also for sharing with me your Xmas customs. it must be nice to have people to sing carols with you.
Our 13 desserts are principally fruits : walnuts, dried figs and raisins, hazelnuts, almonds dattes, orange, nougat de Montélimar white and dark, white grape, prunes, tangerine, pompe à l'huile d'olive.
At midnight the whole family gathers around the "crêche" ans we add Jesus to the rest of the santons. As a child we used to sing our Provençal nativity song then.
Traditions vary as to what time the gifts are opened and in my family I have added the custom of the socks. However they are always kept for Xmas day (mainly because i didn't have time to fix them on Xmas Eve and waited till everyone had gone to bed to prepare them!)
