“The Long and Winding Road”

On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again,
And I can’t wait to get on the road again.
(Willie Nelson)

A gentle shake to the shoulder, and I stir.

If we hadn’t been in the street, and if the suitcase hadn’t been so deftly dispatched to the trunk by the men around us, I might’ve hugged it. Many thanks to our ever-reliable canine friend for taking time out of his busy schedule to assume the role of delivery boy, and for having accepted my humble suitcase as his guest the night before.

I realised one fundamental truth whilst speeding down the highway all day long: road trips in North America are much less dignified affairs. This realisation hit me when we stopped for lunch. As any self-respecting Canadian or American will tell you, the restaurants one finds along major highway routes are largely so-called greasy spoons, providing meals that consist mainly of various fried objects, with nary a vegetable in sight, and do nothing but give me indigestion. They are designed with speed and convenience in mind: the food is prepared quickly, or is made “to go”, to be eaten while cramped in one’s car. They are generally “family-friendly” alcohol-free establishments. Fine dining it is not.

I went up to “my” room and just sat on the bed, feeling a little stunned. It was the first time since my arrival that I felt I had a moment that was truly mine, and mine alone. It was very quiet, and I took the time to decompress, to begin to mentally digest all that had happened in the previous few days. I realised for the first time how exhausted I was, and looked forward to a good night’s sleep.

And now the question is : did you get it? :-) lol

The picture is nice.I think I’ve seen this place before, can’t remember where, though ;-)

I once travelled four days along the US speedways from New-York to Tampa (Fla) and although I can’t really remember what the meals where like, they must have been reasonnably all right to my french tastebuds. But then, anything not reminding me of the greasy smells on downtown fith avenue was bound to be enjoyed as a pleasurable experience.
And….not all restaurants on our highways are as good as the one we stopped at.So much so that guides are edited, with stars attributed, as for hotels,to advise travellers as to what they can expect anywhere on the network. very handy.I keep a copy in my car at all times.

For the answer to that question, you’ll just have to stay tuned! :)

Curiosity killed the cat, you know…

La cynique est... Végétarienne. Activist. Socialiste. Perfectionistic. Stubborn. Attentive. Curvy. Quiet. Rebelle. Feminine. Sensible. Opinionated. Généralement anxieuse. A closeted idealist.

Cet espace est... Un lieu bilingue, libre et ouvert, without censorship (unless you're an evil spammer, in which case I will happily drive a stake through your heart and proudly display your head on a pike), plein de poésie et de beauté (espérons). Now put on your reading glasses and get busy.
