L.O my favorite cynic!
Tried to go on Milarepa Fund and landed on Apache web site . They said I should mention the fact to you so here you are. Haven’t learnt aything about the Fund though. Google will help me no doubt. Also aren’t you a sustainer of Amnesty International?
Ah bonjour! I checked out the Milarepa Fund; as far as I can tell that is still its correct web address. They must just be doing an upgrade of the site right now. And I am still a supporter of Amnesty International (though I haven’t done much in the way of campaigning or letter-writing recently, with all that’s been going on).
nice set of links to peace and justice causes. I found a sign in a post office telling me about this site.
thank you,
lee
L.O I’ve tried the Milarepa link again and here is what I get
” If you can see this page, then the people who own this website have just installed the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.
ATTENTION!
If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. “
I don’t know what’s going on – it’s been like that for quite some time. So I substituted the link – it’s now Tibet Online, a kind of clearing house full of Tibet-related links. It will be much more helpful than what was up there before.
Just a note: I have removed the links to the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) websites. This particular animal rights organisation is known for its use of provocative adverts and questionable tactics in trying to get its message out. I have long struggled with some of the group’s tactics, feeling that they tend to do more harm than good in terms of the animal rights movement – the truly provocative ads do nothing to create dialogue or “make people think”, as the group likes to say; instead, they polarize society and generally give all animal rights activists a bad name.
A recent ad launched by PETA, capitalizing on the horrific murder of a 22-year old man not far from Winnipeg, is senselessly cruel to the victim’s family, and only serves to sensationalize a tragedy. For me, the ad is the straw that broke the camel’s back; I’m severing my ties with the organisation.
(I have, however, kept the link to PETA’s “Meet Your Meat” video, because I do feel this video is essential viewing material, and it is also free of any proselytizing: it’s just a film of a slaughterhouse in action, nothing more. PETA does do some good work, and has scored many victories for animal rights. While I may disagree with many of their tactics, I still believe in the cause.)
