“Each viewer will arrive with their own comfort/discomfort levels. The artist makes something to react to…the viewer reacts. People are going to respond in a different way to a figurative sculpture than they would to something abstract. There might be a certain degree of identification or empathy. They might go with that impulse, or resist it and remain objective or analytical… There are always surprises.”
After having been in Paris, Edinburgh and Brooklyn, the Ron Mueck Exhibition will be making a stop in Ottawa, at the National Gallery of Canada. Unfortunately, I won’t be there to see it! His incredibly life-like sculptures (both giant and miniature) fascinate me. See some of the works included in this exhibition here, and here.

Hi,
There is something strangely disorientating about Mueck’s sculptures that comes from their detail and proportions. His piece A Girl I find really challenging and thats only from looking at images of it.
I just wrote on the http://www.ArtsWom.co.uk website about the piece. Reports indicate it has just been bought for a huge fee by The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art after its popularity during the 2006 exhibition.
Really like the blog,
