Quel plaisir de te retrouver ici sur mon nouveau site! Merci de tes mots gentils; ils me touchent.
I didn't mean to sound disingenious in this post; I am in no way denigrating any job or those who fill those jobs (well, except for some positions in some industries, but that's for another day). And I know it's hopelessly idealistic (and naive) to want a job that's ethically sound, personally fulfilling, and financially rewarding all at once. (Though I know those do exist!) But I do think striving for that should be everyone's ultimate goal. As for my situation, I was just feeling a little sorry for myself; mainly because I enjoy what I do right now and am feeling somewhat resentful at potentially having to give it up. But I've resolved not to worry about it - I may not be called for an interview, and even if I am I may not be offered the job; I'll cross that bridge when (and if) I come to it.

And why should you feel "dirty" because you applied for a job which will enable you to raise the money for your journey? This is just a part of life's contingency. Ideally you'd have a job that both fulfill your heart and soul and provides enough money for living as well as leisure. However we soon learn that that is often not the case. What seems important to me is that you do keep your former job and are able to see all the good it holds for you as well as for the people you deal with. My father kept repeating there's no such thing as a silly job. There's just a way of making a living when one needs to.
He happened to sell neckties in the streets out of an umbrella when he fled from Turkey and landed in Marseille speaking "only" Greek, Armenian, English and Turquish. May be you'll find in your second job that it does something good to someone in the long run. At the very least it will do something good to you if you can pay your airfare with it. And to a number of friendly souls awaiting you this side of the Atlantic. How about that? As long as it doesn't harm anyone.
Would many more of the people in this world be as unremarkable and forgattable as you are. Earth would be a most remarkable place indeed, peopled with the likes of you, offering us such beauty and intelligence mingled with true heart qualities. .
