Things I Love (IX) – Le chocolat

Monday, 30 January 2006 | 17:12

“Le chocolat est divin, moelleux, sensuel, profond. Noir, somptueux, gratifiant, puissant, dense, crémeux, séducteur, suggestif, riche, excessif, soyeux, doux, luxueux, céleste…”

Don’t we all love it ,in all its states? It calls to my mind the word “scrumptious” (my mouth is really full of the flavor and texture of dark chocolate when I say this!) though I would be hard put to find an exact equivalent in french. Any suggestions?

Elysabeth, I cannot think of a good translation for ’scrumptious’, though it is a delicious word. And believe it or not, I know people who don’t enjoy chocolate (and I’m not only speaking of those who are diabetic or allergic)! I find it very curious indeed; it’s something I cannot relate to!

Hi Larissa .I can well believed it since it has been my fate in the 70’s not to enjoy chocolate at all any longer, though I can’t explain why. I vividly remember throwing away a whole box at passer -by one New year’s eve -no I hadn’t drunk too much-just did want to share.
However this state of things ceased when I became pregnant with my first son in the early 80’s and I’ve been a (reasonnable) fan ever since.

I think that Coyotte does mean it is you who is “succulente”. Related to the topic it makes sense.
Scrumptious means excellent or delicieux according to the Harrap’s.What shall we use for delicious then?

Ok I’ll try Cadbury next time. I usually find Nestlé too sweet.

Curiosity killed the cat, you know…

La cynique est... Végétarienne. Activist. Socialiste. Perfectionistic. Stubborn. Attentive. Curvy. Quiet. Rebelle. Feminine. Sensible. Opinionated. Généralement anxieuse. A closeted idealist.

Cet espace est... Un lieu bilingue, libre et ouvert, without censorship (unless you're an evil spammer, in which case I will happily drive a stake through your heart and proudly display your head on a pike), plein de poésie et de beauté (espérons). Now put on your reading glasses and get busy.
